An autobiography of Gaurav’s glass(spectacles)

One thing you should know before reading this is that Gaurav lost one of his glass from his spectacles on our way to Bhutan . Mysteriously we found the same on our return journey after 6 days. Here follows the story recounted by the glass itself:

An autobiography by Gaurav’s Glass (Spectacles)

I am one of those luckiest in this world, not just because I have a twin brother to look after me, but also I am being worn by a very good & humorous person. The first time I was picked up from that shop, I knew that I was in good hands. My master sees the world through me, may it be the beautiful IIM Calcutta campus or my master’s beautiful wife which his friends lovingly call “Bhabhi”.

Both I and my twin brother (who looks exactly like me) were very much excited when we learned that our master is going for a Bhutan trip on 21st August. It was an amazing group with 10 people and I enjoyed a lot looking at all those smiling faces. Amongst them, there is a famous Shayar, two handsome models cum photographers, our bhabhi , one baba, one psycho, one Basanti (Sholay), two interesting small guys called Gimli aka coco & Frodo aka kotidas and lastly my loving master .

The journey was really good and I enjoyed a lot watching the beautiful mountains, skies, rivers etc. At one point of time during the ride, all of us stopped to catch a nice view of the mountains and the river on the way to Thimpu. We were photographed a lot at that place and I was really happy. Suddenly someone started throwing stones to the river and a contest soon started on deciding who can throw the stone farthest. I was also in a frenzy mood and I never expected that the moment would come. In an attempt by my master to throw the stone afar, I slipped from the frame and fell into the ground. I screamed at that moment but none heard my pain. I tried to shout but my voice couldn’t come out. My twin brother gave me a last longing tearful look towards me before he left with my master and the rest of the people.

Suddenly I felt so lonely. The skies and mountains are so lovely but what use are all those beauty when I have no one to share.  I hoped that my master would soon realize my absence and come back to take me back. I waited in silence for the familiar voices to come but it didn’t. Night fell so sudden,  airs whispered me stories of the abandoned ones; I felt so cold, my eyes swelled with tears and the dewdrops blurred my vision. The eeriness of the night with little visibility of the moon and stars gave a deep lonely agony. Suddenly, I felt a pang, deeper than my present pain on thinking “How would my master enjoy the beautiful sights of this land of Dragon without me?”  I and my twin brother were the ones who make things more clearly visible to him. But the very fact that my brother is still there with him relieved me.

For 6 full days and nights, I had been waiting for me to be picked up. I hated to see the same sight, and feel the same cold nights again and again. When all hope was gone, and when I had started to blame my fateful fate, I heard the same familiar voices near me. An impulse of joy lifted me. Before I could clearly see though my tearful eyes, my master picked me up and shouted: “Hi everyone, I found my glass covered in sundews”. The happiness for this reunion was inexpressible.  The moment he wiped my tears off, he shouted loud and clear: “Guys, I am giving a big treat back in Kolkata, and guys, remind me if I forget to do so.

Alcohol : A Menance to Society

Alcoholism in our societies is increasing every single day. The biggest concern is that the youngsters and teenagers who are  addicted to alcohol and drugs are affecting the younger generation of our world. More and more teenagers indulge in drinking for fun and sometimes to deal with their personal problems, depression and anxieties in life, peer pressure, family problems etc. The notion that Alcohol leads to freedom from all such problems is the mother of all such problems along with the image created by film stars  like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears who are the idol of many youngsters.   Most drug rehab cases on addiction treatment are of age less than 25. The number of drug addicts is alarmingly increasing day by day.

Many teenagers who drink for fun eventually  indulge in persistent use of alcohol and become alcoholics.  Peer pressure and the urge to stand out in the crowd (many alcoholics seem to believe that they look and sound manly when people see them drunk) are also the main causes for the present day drug abuse among teenagers.  The effects of drug can make you look much older. They start to develop dark circles around eyes. These dark circles are due to the loss of energy and weakening state of your heart and body. Insomnia, irritation and frequent outbursts and brawls are early signs of drug abuse.  When such problems start showing off. it  is the time to get a test to drug abuse and check into a drug rehab.

A Drug Rehab Center is a place where people suffering from alcoholism, drug addiction, depression, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders are treated with specialized treatments with variety of clinical components. The point of drug rehab program is to create a comprehensive and effective addiction treatment program for all levels and from all types of drugs like Alcohol, Marijuana, Cocaine, Crack, Heroin, Opiates (Oxycontin, Vicodin), Methadone, Crystal Methamphetamine, Prescription Pills, Psychiatric Medication and many more drugs. Also while choosing a drug rehabilitation center it is always advisable to consider the costs involved as they often tend to be a very expensive business, so plan before hand is always good. Also make sure that the center has good professionals to deal with the addicted patients and have latest tools and facilities to make sure that patients are taken well care of.

For the past 5 months, I have been trying to contact NTSE scholarship section with little success. The scholarship they sent to my college MANIT, haven’t been received by my college(thats what my college, with the biggest red tapism I had ever seen,  says). I sent mails through speed post to NTSE office in DElhi. They reply back in ordinary mail which takes about 20 days to reach me.  I tried to contact through telephone but their phone was out of service.
